Special Education Social Workers

Central Kansas Cooperative In Education has five Social Workers that address specific needs and resources that are often unique for students with disabilities. They support students, families and staff in different ways beyond the supports available within the school buildings and district that assist all students. The following are ways that our Social Workers provided support:
          *Expert in working with disability specific agencies/organizations
          *Expert in helping families access community resources related to disabilities

Our 3 Year to 5 Year Old Special Education Students:

          *Salina PreK but also CKCIE wide EC expert & resource
          *Knowledgeable of EC regulations
          *Family support and introducing school based programs, community agencies & resources and assistance understanding EC systems in CKCIE communities/districts.
          *Initial information gathering within the “system”, ie social history, etc.
          *Assist with transitions moving into elementary school programs
          *Assisting with Part C to B transitions
          *Leadership in child find/screenings
          *CKCIE Resource to the districts/teams on Pre-K issues.

Our Emotional Behavior Disorder Programs:

          *Law enforcement, mental health, medical, hospital liaison
          *Individual and/or group therapy or counseling sessions
          *Assist with transitions between programs and buildings, facilitate secondary transition for the population and key strategies & resources for success after high school.
          *Family support and resource to agencies and systems specific to social, emotional, behavioral disabilities
          *Facilitate Wrap Arounds and outside agencies with the school and families

Our Functional Learning Classrooms:

          *Law enforcement, medical, mental health, , hospital liaison
          *Individual and/or group therapy or counseling sessions utilizing best practices for populations with significant developmental disabilities.
          *Assist with transitions between buildings and secondary transition needs specific to individuals with significant developmental disabilities.
          *Family support and resource to agencies and systems specific to individuals with significant developmental disabilities
          *Facilitate Wrap Arounds and outside agencies working with students and the school

Specialty Programs (Opportunity Now, Transitions, Project Search):

          *Law enforcement, mental health, medical, hospital liaison
          *Individual and/or group therapy or counseling sessions
          *Assist with transitions between buildings, secondary transition, successful transition to life after high school
          *Family support and resource to agencies and systems specific to disabilities
          *Facilitate Wrap Arounds and outside agencies with students & school
          *Administrative support to Coordinators at these sites.

Social Worker Support for Special Education Students in CKCIE Districts Outside of Salina:

          *A specific focus on students with more significant disabilities who require specialized resources and support/s.
          *Resource/Expert of community resources
          *Assist building/district support staff and help them connect with resources
          *Social histories of new severe foster students coming in from other districts’ programs
          *Family support and resource to agencies and systems specific to disabilities
          *Extensive work to build capacity within outlying district “social work type positions” for kids with less significant disabilities
